This month we're travelling to Bordeaux! 

Forget aqueducts and obscure old languages, wine production in the south west of France is obviously the greatest achievement of the Roman Empire and certainly the thing we're most grateful for! 

Dating to around the 1st century AD, people have been fermenting and drinking grape juice in Bordeaux throughout all of history's biggest events. Don't quote us but we've heard the French Revolution started due to a bad vintage of Médoc rouge.

When we talk Bordeaux reds, we're talking about the big five: Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot and Malbec. Big, bold and damn good with beef, these grapes have become truly global for a reason. From the old world to the new, wine culture owes a lot to this slice of heaven either side of the Gironde estuary.
